And it is a YES for Australia!

There has been quite a bit of chatter since the overwhelming ‘YES’ vote happened  in Australia last week.  Whilst many celebrants and (same-sex couples!) are extremely keen to move forward with marriage plans, until the legislation has been approved in Parliament, we have no idea when same-sex marriages can occur, or the process one needs to complete to make that happen.  Here is the latest information available on the Attorney General’s website: The Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Bill 2017 (‘Dean Smith Bill’) was introduced into the Senate on 15 November 2017. The requirements set out in the Marriage Act 1961 remain in […]

Udy and Vanessa – 16 April

What a magical wedding ceremony for Udy and Vanessa which was conducted at the Audley Picnic Grounds in the Royal National Park.  Udy’s mother participated in the ceremony by chanting the Gayatri Mantra. This is the most famous Sanskrit ‘shloka,’ or couplet, from the ancient Indian Holy Vedas that are sacred to the Hindus.  A beautiful and very emotional moment for all concerned! The wedding venue had a spectacular backdrop of the escarpment and the uninvited guests (a very large goanna and noisy cockatoos) added that extra special touch for the wedding party and their guests!

You might like to have a look at how Sandy and Lou celebrated their relationship recently.  ABC program Four Corners ‘For Better or Worse’ televised on 10 October featured their amazing ceremony conducted in 2015 before their children, family and friends.  You can see it […]

A silent protest in support of same sex marriage

If you feel strongly about marriage equality, you might like to consider this simple protest to the words ‘Marriage according to the law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman …’ required to be stated by your celebrant during your wedding ceremony.

Our neighbours in New Zealand lead the way in Asia-Pacific

New Zealand is the first Asian-Pacific country to legalise same sex marriage.  Equality is now less than three hours away and thousands of gay and lesbian Australians are already planning to have their wedding in NZ.  The difficulty is that these marriages will not be recognised in Australia.  Australia’s laws about marriages in foreign countries say that same-sex marriages cannot be recognised here, even though straight marriages can. Perhaps the very funny speech made by New Zealand MP Maurice Williamson can assist to influence our politicians! Source:
